Floor pressure mats or pads are designed to detect a person treading on them.

pressure matThey offer a low cost covert method of detecting movement when required.

The pressure mat / pad should be laid on a flat and even floor then covered with a conventional floor covered with the carpet.

A far more effective device is the 'motion sensor'.
